Bali’s Big Eco Weekend

PEP students win surfboard paining contest

On July 2-3, the PEP Foundation joined other NGO’s at Kuta Beach to raise awareness of environmental issues in Bali. Governor Pastika opened the two day event which included a beach clean up, releasing baby turtles into the sea and live music performances. It was a good opportunity for PEP to network with the Japan Club, ROLE Foundation and government leaders.

Training Center Update

Many hands make light work

Stage 1 of the Training Center Underway!

Many hands make light work.  With 700 students, it didn’t take long to demolish the old classrooms in preparation for the training center.  Local builders have now moved in to build the first floor of the main building. By October, we hope to have 2 guest rooms, a front lobby, training kitchen and restaurant.  In July, Budi, Sudadi, Niko, Hannah, Heather and Lyn visited 35 hotels in Bali to seek their help.  All students and teachers are also contributing – either with their time or by donating goods. Please see our Wish List of things we need to furnish the training center and let us know if you can help in some way

Billy Blanks leads fund-raisers for PEP

Billy at SMK Payangan

Tae Bo Workout Guru and 7 times world karate champion, Billy Blanks, has led fun-raising workouts for the PEP Foundation in both Japan and Bali.  In March 2009, he visited students of SMK Payangan in their homes, led workouts at Bali International School, Ubud Fitness Center and Campuhan College and delighted fans by sparring with members of the SMK Payangan karate club.  Billy is a great example to the young people of Payangan and his message of hope was inspirational.
