The PEP Foundation supports the Elshadai Welfare Association located in the Lugari District in West Kenya. The locally run welfare association is administered by Mr Solomon Havi. Mr Havi received a scholarship and training through JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency http://www.jica.go.jp/english/ ) in 1999 – 2000 where he met William and Lyn Melville-Rea.
Since 2001 The PEP Foundation has given financial support (over AU $ 20,000) to the Elshadai Welfare Association in order to help it :
1. assist the less fortunate in society – orphans and widows – with basic life needs such as food, clothing and medicine,
2. invest in income generating projects like a village posho mill, village shop and an office,
3. create employment for the less fortunate through work in the posho mill and shop,
4. help local villagers in and around Eldoret Town in the Lugari District, buy necessary commodities, at their door step, at lower cost,

5. pay for short term professional training for identified youth from poor families,
6. sponsor others for entrepreneurship training courses e.g in carpentry, driving and tailoring.

Immediate Future Plans (needing support) include :
1. the installation of electricity in the office, posho mill and shop,

3. the construction of a second workshop and smaller supporting tool shop in order to improve employment and technical training for those in need.
Other Future Plans (needing support) include :
4. boring a new hole for well water that the society and local community need and
5. increasing the number of people in need that the association can assist.
Note: Unfortunately, due to the high inflation rate in Kenya, which has sky rocketed in recent years, the association is struggling to meet its financial commitments and goals.
