Mission
Sustainable Tourism and Education to Eliminate Poverty
Payangan Education Project Outline
i. To build an eco-hotel and training center, on land adjoining SMK PGRI Payangan Vocational High School of Tourism, which:
a) allows students authentic training in hospitality,
b) generates income for the community (in an economically-viable way) and that promotes local entrepreneurship,
c) respects and contributes to intercultural understanding and tolerance,
d) exemplifies eco-friendly and sustainable practices,
e) follows WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) principles.
ii. To assess and offer sponsorship and/or scholarships to students living in the Payangan area of Bali, who:
a) cannot afford to go to a public or foundation high school,
b) are motivated and show potential to do well in their studies at SMK PGRI Payangan.
iii. To improve the general facilities and education offered at SMK PGRI Payangan Vocational High School of Tourism by providing:
a) computers and internet,
b) teacher training,
c) classroom supplies,
d) eco-friendly practices, technologies and training,
e) facilities such as better toilets, waste water management and a sufficient power supply using hydro, solar or other renewable energy source.

1. Eco-Design
All buildings and landscapes will integrate themselves into the natural environment and will be built using energy-efficient, locally-produced building materials.
2. Energy
Sahaja will use clean, sustainable energy, including hydro electricity, solar power and solar hot water.
3. Conservation
Sahaja will remain small so as to conserve the natural surroundings. It will provide both the local community and visitors with environmental education opportunities.
4. Ecological sustainability
Sahaja will feature meals made from locally-grown, organic food. Waste will be recycled, including grey water.
5. Community
Sahaja will empower the local community by generating income which is directly used to give children access to education. It will also provide many opportunities for local people to share their culture and customs
